“I love that we’re doing this together, I love that we’re giving artists the opportunity to shine, to let their artistry blossom.” – John Legend
Okay, so NYFW was a little while ago but it’s Friday, after all. And what can I say, it’s been a busy time since September – so let’s #fbf and forgive and forget my (er, totally on purpose!) super fashionable late-for-the-party posting timetable. After all, the best things come to those who wait! (* unless it’s the after Xmas shoe sale at Saks. Wait for that and you’re screwed).
Luckily, I wasn’t late for the actual party. Nor did I let the downpour of rain that drenched NYC on Fashion Week’s opening night stop me! The fashion glitterati partied off the precipitation – and let’s be honest, most took cabs and Ubers. And while most of the fashion limelight shines on womenswear during NYFW, the ladies are always up for celebrating the menfolk… especially when they look as good as John Legend.
AXE, the men’s #1 fragrance brand (so their website says), and men’s style go-to Esquire announced in May of 2015 their plans to invite five talented, aspiring designers to join the White Collective and be mentored by John Legend and fashion designer Billy Reid.
Chrissy Teigen, NFL’er Andre Williams and Miss USA Olivia Jordan were among the celebs to join in on the extravaganza held on September 10th at the Pop14 event space in Chelsea. DJ’s kept the party hopping all night with yummy cocktails (plus beer and wine) and delicious helpings of fries. (Perfect for a party celebrating the style of dudes!)
John Legend, Billy Reid and Esquire’s Nick Sullivan were on hand to intro the hand-selected designers Ryan Barr, Kristopher Haigh, Savannah Yarborough, Stanley Cheung and Afryie Poku. As guests mingled, we were also invited to check out each of the designer’s displays.
Afryie Poku’s line, OBERIMA AFRIYIE, embraces a love for a retro, dapper gentleman. His display was a fun throwback as well, models wearing his pieces alternated positions every few minutes.
Savannah Yarborough’s ATELIERSAVAS specializes in supple leather jackets. AbFab gorgeous. Every fashionista girl is going to want her man to have one… so she can steal ‘em. While the private atelier is located in Nashville, the designer travels for fittings to both NYC and LA.
Ryan Barr’s stunning collection of WHIPPING POST also wowed us with its exquisite leather goods and accessories. Every man of style knows his look doesn’t start and end in his closet.
Stanley Chung’s LA based EYSOM label (aka Short Exercise Your State Of Mind) is athleisure perfect for home, gym and a post workout brunch date.
Kristopher Haigh’s 1K line specializes in a more urbane and sleek look to the typical baseball cap. He uses crisp, clean lines and a minimalist color palate.Share the XOXO's with your BESTIES and FRENEMIES
